Establishing farmers' market is a timely initiative to ensure access to safe food for consumers and fair prices to farmers' produce. It is possible to play a role in improving public health and strengthening the local economy if neighbourhood farmers' markets are established in each ward of Dhaka city.
On 11 November 2022 speakers opined such in the inauguration ceremony of farmers’ market at ward no.32, DNCC. The event was jointly organized by Dhaka North City Corporation, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Department of Agriculture Extension and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The market is organized at Block-B behind Lalmatia Mohila College. Every Friday from 7 am to 2 pm ten farmers, who practice safe farming and endorsed by DAE, from Tetuljhora, Savar will sell their vegetables and fruits in this market.
The farmer's market was inaugurated by Syed Hasan Noor Islam Rashtan, Councilor of Ward No. 32 of Dhaka North City Corporation.
The inauguration ceremony was moderated by senior project manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, Ziaur Rahman and speakers of the program were Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer of Savar Nasir Uddin Bhuiyan, Food System Policy Economist of Dhaka Food System Project of FAOBD Pedro Andres Garzon Delvaux, and Director of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee.
