About 15% people in Bangladesh are persons with disabilities. Government of Bangladesh has undertaken many initiatives to improve their quality of lives. As a result Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act 2013 has been formulated. Honorable Prime Minister has allocated a playground for persons with disabilities in the southern corner of National Sangsad considering the importance of socialization and physical activity of persons with disabilities. Unfortunately the playground has not been opened till date. It is important to renovate and open the playground for persons with disabilities as soon as possible considering their physical and mental health.
On this demand Disability Development Foundation, Society of the Deaf and Sign Language User, Center for the Rights and Development of Person with Disability, Access Bangladesh Foundation, Dhaka Ideal Cadet School, Dhanmondi Kochikontho High School, Rayerbazar High School, Institute of Wellbeing Bangladesh, Car-free Cities Alliance and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust has jointly organized a campaign on 17th January 2021.
Speakers said that, our Honorable Prime Minister has heartfelt feeling towards persons with disabilities. Thus she takes continuous effort for their betterment. We hope relevant authority will open this playground soon for person with disabilities with all necessary amenities and universal accessible design will be considered.
The campaign was presided over Ziaur Rahman, senior project officer of WBB Trust and moderated by assistant project officer of WBB Trust, MD Mithun. Chairman of Center for the Rights and Development of Person with Disability Jahirul Islam, Head Master of Dhaka Ideal Cadet School MA Mannan Monir, Teacher of Rayerbazar High School Tahajjut Hossain, Policy Officer of Institute of Wellbeing Bangladesh ANM Masum Billah Bhuiyan, Nishat Afroz from B-Scan and many more were present in the campaign.
