Usually, a woman does many kinds of works at home like cooking, decorating house, taking care of children and older, assisting children in teaching, going to bazaar, washing clothes, and doing many other things. After that ‘women do nothing at all’ is established everywhere in the society. Besides, it is also thought that only women are responsible for doing all household activities. To change this thought, two documentaries ‘I do nothing’ and ‘Build Happy Family Working Together’ were exhibited due to give importance on women’s works and to give idea to all about the importance of everyone’s work.
25 January 2016 at 12 pm a documentary exhibition was organized jointly by Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust and Begum Bodrunnesa Govt’ College. Naznin Kabir, Deputy Program Manager WBB Trust, gave welcoming speech in the exhibition. There principal Mahbuba of Begum Bodrunnesa Govt’ College as chairman; vice principal B.M. Maksuda Akter as a special guest; professor Ashrafunnesa, English department; professor Dr. Md. Principal Mahbuba Rahman said that women who work at home are not being respected as the women who work outside. However, women are the biggest strength in the development of economy. Thus, all works by women have to be properly recognized.
Vice Principal B.M Maksuda Akter mentioned that women silently contribute in family, society, and state; and those contributions should be well known to all.
Professor Ashrafunnesa said that women are always busy working at home and outside. Thus, men need to come forward for helping women at household works. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam mentioned that usually a man works for 8 hours in his working place where a woman works for 18 hours at home. Again, the contribution of women is not recognized but their contribution should be recognized through paying respect to them rather than paying them money.
Dr. Abeda Sultana explained that it is a right of a woman to get reorganization of her house works and her owing right she has to be paid too. There is no family in the world where the main strength is not women’s contribution.
Naznin Kabir said that women who work at home are not being respected in the same way as the women who work outside.
Debra Efroymson said that our children are the most precious to us and women take care of the children and older people too besides, doing all household works. However, while members and children of the family are asked ‘What does the woman do?’ and the reply comes like ‘she does nothing’. Hence, we should change our aspect. At last,
Tanjila Chowdhury mentioned that first we have to find out problems of women and then we need to work for solving those. Besides, it is needed to build friendly educational environment for them. It is her right to be recognized with her household works; thus, she has to be given owing right.
