There is no alternativeof increasing public awareness and Public Involvement in tobacco control activity to implement FCTC article 5.3. In order to implement this international agreement, the vile attempt and plot of tobacco companies behind their 'social responsibility program' have to be prevented and controlled. Distinguished persons feel that it is very important to implement these provisions to protect public health and to keep out tobacco control activities from the influence of tobacco companies in Bangladesh. In a meeting titled "Importance of FCTC article 5.3 implementation for tobacco control" organized by WBB Trust at their meeting room on 23 March 2016, speakers gave this opinion.
The Ex-IGP of Bangladesh police Dr. Enamul Haq presided over the meeting where Technical Advisor of The Union Syed Mahbubul Alam, Coordinator of Naripakkha Samia Afrin, Director Administration of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee, Prominent film director Chotku Ahmed, General Secretary of Prottyasha Helal Ahmed, tobacco control activists Shagufta Sultana.
Speakers said, to make profit tobacco companies are creating obstacles inpublic health policy development and formulation. In Bangladesh companies are promoting harmful tobacco products through conducting different deceptive activity and try to implement them with the help of the administration. In order to accelerate the development of overall public health, government should be more stringent on tobacco control.
The program was moderated by WBB Trust's Program Manager Syeda Anonna Rahman and the key note presentation given by Project Officer Fahmida Islam. Representative from NATAB, Progga, EC Bangladesh, YPSA, AID Foundation, ACLAB, Manobik, TCRC, BUKS, Satkhira Manob Kollyan Sangstha, Arunodoyer Torun Dol and many other anti-tobacco organizations participated in the discussion.
