Around the world, about 1.5 billion people's livelihood is dependent on the water. Moreover, all the profession is indirectly dependent on the water. Water resources are being wasted because of unplanned urbanization, industrial establishment and absence of proper utilization of water resources. As a result, disaster came down on biological and livelihoods. So water sources needs to be protected from illegal possession and pollution for the sake of life and livelihood. That is why it is important to formulate and implement the action plan for preserving water sources according to SDG. People's participation is necessary to ensure the safety of the water rights and water. Speakers gave the opinion in a human chain program titled 'Protect water resources for life and livelihood ' which is jointly organized by Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, Paribesh Banchao Andolon (POBA), Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA), NGO Forum for Public Health, Dhaka International University, NDF, Citizens Rights Protection Forum, Prottyasha Anti Drug Club, Green Mind Society, Sohay Unnayan Shangtha, Provati Shomaj Unnayan Shangtha in front of National Press Club today morning.
In the presidents speech, the Chairman of Paribesh Banchao Andolon (POBA) Abu Naser Khan said, 'Not only life and public health, industrialization is also under threat because of water crisis. Lack of proper use of water and manmade reason damages the safe sources of water. Pure water crisis showed up because of increasing water pollution and losing water quality. To prevent misuse of water resources, measures must be undertaken from the grassroots to the national level.
The Australian chapter coordinator of Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) Kamrul Ahsan Khan said, 'Environment, ecology, history, tradition, business, economics, culture everything involves very closely with river water and livelihoods. He said the neighborhood should be involved in the use and conservation of water resources. The President of Citizens Rights Protection Forum Hafizur Rahman Moyna said, 'Though the river-centered livelihoods play an important role in keeping a dynamic economy, currently the riverside people's livelihood is changing. Water sources to be free from pollution and illegal possession.
Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust's Program Manager Maruf Hossain said, 'Lack of proper and appropriate use of water resources causes acute shortage of drinking water. Our industries are using only 2% of the water but they are responsible for 70% of water pollution. To protect water sources from pollution and possession it is necessary to formulate and implement action plan in the light of SDG'. Helal Ahmed, General Secretary of Prottyasha Anti Drug Club said, 'In many parts of India, drinking water have to collect from around 5 to 30 km distance. Though being a little better condition in that respect, we are under threat because of pollution and possession. The government and the public must work together to protect water resources.'
The Senior Project Officer of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Ziaur Rahman Litu said, ' We have to make the river pollution free. In the past, we have seen to undertake big projects, but could not stop river pollution including the Buriganga around the city. WASA have to play more active role in this regard to meet the water demand of Dhaka residents.' Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA) Humayun Kabir said, 'Most of the livelihood is dependent on water and its safe supply. In that case, we need to save our water reservoirs.'
Amir Hossain, Executive Director of Green Mind Society said, ' Rules need to be made very immediately for releasing industrial waste to prevent water pollution. Otherwise, the water source can not be saved. The Research Assistant of Dhaka International University Farzana Zaman Liza said, 'Water sources are threatened because companies are building housing by filling water bodies.
