After 11 years of the enactment of the law, when Bangladesh is going to implement graphic health warning from March 19 of this year, the cunning tobacco companies are being fraudulent. Everyone should be united to prevent death-stick seller tobacco industries. The TC law is for public health promotion, not for giving fraudulent opportunities to tobacco companies. So tobacco companies' unethical activities have to be defended.
Appealing to defend tobacco companies conspiracy, a meeting has been arranged by WBB Trust on 23rd January 2016 at Koiborto meeting room of WBB Trust where anti tobacco activists gave the above opinion. 16 representatives from network organizations attended the meeting titled "Necessity of ensuring pictorial warning for the implementation of TC law". Gaous Pearee, Director (Admin), WBB Trust was chair in the meeting which is moderated by Syeda Anonna Rahman, Program Manager, WBB trust. In the meeting, Helal Ahmed, General Secretary, Prottyasha Anti Drug Organization; Ibnul Syed Rana, Chairman, Nirapod Development Foundation; Tarikul Islam, Executive Director, ACLAB; Md. Abul Hoassain, Executive Director, SHARP; Md. Akbar Hossain, Executive Director, Swadesh Mrittika was present.
Note that, despite of being the first signatory country of Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), Bangladesh is far behind to provide graphic health warning in tobacco products. Which dent the reputation of Bangladesh in the international arena. Basically to make addicted youth in tobacco, multinational tobacco companies are conspired for avoiding graphic health warning.
