Speakers said that, polypropylene imported by bond license are being used to prepare illegal polythene. Each family uses four polythene each day in Dhaka. According to that, about 1 crore 40 lakh polythene is thrown only in Dhaka City. This polythene are causing water clog. At present 30 lakh tissue bag are being produced and distributed in Bangladesh every day. Chemical Engineering department of BUET has found out that tissue bag contains fatal components for health and environment. Various shopping malls, shops, cloth stores are using tissue bags at present.
Our Demands:
· Strict implementation of polythene banning law and ensure punishment of the law violators.
· Ensure alternate like jute, cloth and paper bags instead of polythene and tissue bag. And make them popular.
· Stop importing raw materials of polythene and control importing propylene through bond license.
· Ensure coordination among Department of Environment, Law Enforcement, National Bureau of Revenue, FBCCI, Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation. Ministry of Environment and Forest should play an important role in this regard.
