In Bangladesh, 6.4 million people are becoming poor for bearing treatment cost every year which obstruct the overall development of the country. On the other hand about 21.4 million people will be under threat of cancer disease by 2030. To control this situation and to ensure actual development in health system attention should pay on preventive measures. The main goal of Health Promotion Foundation will be to ensure funding and technical assistance for disease preventive measures. Speakers gave their opinion during a view exchange meeting held in celebrating National Tobacco Free Day at National Press Club on 09th October 2015.
Speakers said government has imposed 1% surcharge on tobacco products which will be a huge opportunity of HPF financing. In addition, there is a possibility to earn fund by imposing tax on fast food, soft drinks, sugar-sweetened beverages, other unhealthy snacks, private cars and bottled water. This money can be spend for public health protection by forming an autonomous govt. Health Promotion Foundation.
Mozaffar Hossain Poltu, Senior Vice-president of NATAB; Rafiqul Islam Milon, Advisor, Manobik; Helal Ahmed, Prottyasha anti tobacco organization gave speech in the meeting which is preside by Saifuddin Ahmed, Coordinator, Bangladesh Anti Tobacco Alliance (BATA) and conducted by Ibnul Syed Rana, Chairman, NDF. Presentation was given by Syed Mahbubul Haque, Technical Advisor, The Union.
In celebration of National Tobacco Free Day and calling for formation of Health Promotion Foundation Bangladesh Anti Tobacco Alliance also organized a human chain program in front of National Press Club.
