Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust and Shirak organized a rally on 7 June, 2011. Tobacco consumption causes cancer, tuberculosis, heart diseases, Asthma, stroke, diabetics and many other diseases. It becomes impossible to serve necessary foods for women and children of family for spending a portion of income on tobacco. Mal-nutrition is acute among women and children in Bangladesh. A half of the malnutritionized children can be saved if 69% of money spent on tobacco can be used for feeding children. In addition, tobacco use increases poverty. Social leaders are to be involved in tobacco control to ensure overall development including eradication of poverty.
