Rail is a public service sector. This public transport contributes to emancipate from the captivity of private sector transport in addition to reduction of pollution, safe transportation, low cost goods transport, economical use of land, poor friendly transport, checking congestions, decentralization and rapport between city and countryside. So, rail can never be privatized as there is no alternative to run railway publicly. Speakers made these demands at a seminar in VIP Lounge of National Press Club on 19 January 2012, at 11.00 AM in the morning. The program was jointly organized by Urban and Rural Development Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), Save the Environment (POBA), and WBB Trust. Rail Minister Suranjit Sen Gupta MP graced the function as chief guest while Abu Naser Khan, President of Save the Environment (POBA) was in the chair.Manjurul Ahsan Khan, President of Bangladesh Communist Party, Engineer Abu Taher, Director General of Bangladesh Railway and Golam Rahman, President of BIP were present as special guests. Syed Mahbubul Alam, Director of WBB Trust and Sumon Mitra, professor of URP Department of BUET presented the key note in the seminar. Aminul Islam Sujon, Project Coordinator of WBB Trust convened the function.
