The 16th and last farmer's market has been inaugurated under the program titled 'Establishing of Neighbourhood Farmers' Markets in Dhaka' under the Dhaka Food System Project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to ensure safe food for urban consumers. Every market will continue to operate to improve the quality of life of residents and farmers. If farmers' markets are expanded in other wards of Dhaka city following the model of these 16 markets, there will be positive impact on public health.
On 25 November 2022 at 8.00 am speakers opined such in the inauguration of farmers’ market in Rupnagar Residential Area Road No. 23, Ward No. 7, DNCC. The inauguration program was jointly organized by Dhaka North City Corporation, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Department of Agriculture Extension and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust with support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Every Friday from 7 am to 2 pm 10 farmers, who practice safe farming and endorsed by DAE, from Birulia, Savar will sell their vegetables and fruits.
The Farmers' Market was inaugurated by Md. Tofazzal Hossain Tenu, Councilor of Ward No. 7 of Dhaka North City Corporation. The inauguration event was moderated by Senior Project Manager of WBB Trust Ziaur Rahman.
The speakers of the program were Savar Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Md Sabuj Chowdhury, Assistant Social Welfare Officer of Zone-2 DNCC Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan, Food System Policy Economist of FAOBD Pedro Andrés Garzon Delvaux and Director of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee.
Also, HM Nurul Haque, Vice President, Rupnagar Flat Owner Association, Mizanur Rahman, former Station Head, Prison Bangladesh, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Masud Ali Sheikh, Birulia, Savar, Food System City Coordinator of Dhaka North of Dhaka Food System Project Md. Nazrul Islam and local residents were present in the event.
