With the aim of creating direct communication between farmers and consumers, ‘Establishing Neighbourhood Farmers’ Market in Dhaka’ project is being implemented under the Dhaka Food System Project of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Through this program, availability of safe food for city dwellers as well as fair price to the farmers will be ensured. 6 farmers' markets are being established in Dhaka South City Corporation under the program. Already 4 farmers markets have been established. The fifth farmers' market of Dhaka South has been inaugurated at Khilgaon on 4th November 2022.

The farmers’ market was jointly inaugurated by Dhaka South City Corporation, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Department of Agriculture Extension and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust with support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and speakers opined such in the event. 10 farmers, who practice safe farming and endorsed by DAE, from Rupganj will sell their vegetables and fruits every Friday from 7 am to 2 pm in the farmer's market organized between north gate of Khilgaon Government High School and Ansar Head Quarter.

Swe Men Jo, Zonal Executive Officer of Zone 2 of Dhaka South City Corporation was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the farmers' market. The program was moderated by senior project manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Ziaur Rahman and chaired by Mahbubul Alam, Councilor, Ward No. 1, DSCC. Reserved councilor of ward 1,11,12 Farhana Islam Dolly was present as a special guest. Agriculture Extension Officer of Rupganj Upazila Agriculture Office Niharanjan Roy, President of NASF Hafizur Rahman Maina, Director of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Gaous Pearee were present as guest speakers of the inauguration ceremony.

Also Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer of Rupganj Upazila Md. Ariful Islam, Unit 3 Awami League President Aktaruzzaman, Dhaka City Unit Commander freedom fighter Shafiqul Rahman Shaheed, President of Pallima Sangsad Mosharrof Hossain and local residents were present in the event.
