Farmers are the driving force of our country. Unfortunately, we have failed to ensure profit to them. On the other hand, due to poor market system, the consumers face the challenge to access safe food. A proper market system can educe the gap between farmers and consumers. Thus, the second farmers’ market in DSCC area has been inaugurated under DFS project of Food and Agriculture organization of the United Nations. In this market, 10 farmers, who practice safe farming and endorsed by Department of Agricultural Extension, from Tetuljhora union of Savar, will sell their produce.
This market will operate at Eskaton Garden beside Ladies Club on each Friday from 7 AM to 2 PM and will ensure access to safe food to the consumers.
On 30th September 2022 the inauguration ceremony of the farmers’ market in ward no.19 of DSCC was jointly organized by Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dhaka South City Corporation, Department of Agricultural Extension, Food and Agriculture organization of the United Nations, and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust. And speakers opined such during the inauguration ceremony.
This market was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the ceremony, MD Abul Bashar, councilor, ward no.19, DSCC. The ceremony was moderated by Ziaur Rahman, Senior Project Manager, WBB Trust and speakers of the program were Roksana Islam Chameli, reserved Councilor, ward no. 13,19,20, DSCC; Dr Sanjida Islam, Health Officer, DSCC; Nasiruddin Bhuiyan, sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer, Savar Upazila; Pedro Andres Garzon Delvaux, Food System Policy Economist, DFS Project, FAOBD; and Gaous Pearee, Director, WBB Trust. Others present in the program were Nurul Bashar Rimon, Social Activist; MD Zahangir Alam, Sustainable Agriculture Specialist, DFS Project, FAOBD; and Sharifa Parvin, Food System City Coordinator/DSCC, DFS Project, FAOBD and many others.
