On 20 December 2016, Seminar on “Necessity of implementation of FCTC article 5.3 for tobacco control” organized in the conference hall of Barishal Divisional Commissioners’ office. The seminar chaired by Divisional Commissioner of Barishal Md. Gaous. Dr. Abu Zafar, Assistant Director of Director (Health) office; Director of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee; Israt Jahan, Senior Assistant commissioner of Barishal Divisional Commissioners’ office; kazi Enayet Hossain, Executive Director of Scope addressed in the seminar.

Speakers said, the article 5.3 of Framework Convention of Tobacco Control of the World Health organization (WHO) should be strictly followed to keep tobacco control initiatives free from tobacco company interference. As a first signatory of FCTC, we have obligations to implement the instructions as per the agreement. Tobacco companies are engaged in the effort to attract people towards smoking in different ways. Government officials and employees should be informed about FCTC Article 5.3 to prevent their vicious attempt. WBB Trust, Bangladesh Anti Tobacco Alliance and The Union jointly organized the program with the collaboration of Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Barishal.
