Govt. has imposed 1% surcharge on tobacco products which is positive. But it very unfortunate that it is not yet finalized within two and half years how the money will be spent. Surcharge money needs to be spent for NCD prevention including tobacco control.  A draft policy has been formulated for this. This policy needs to be passed quickly with giving priority to prevention system including improving public health. Speakers expressed the above opinion in a seminar titled "NCD Prevention, Tobacco Control and Health Protection" jointly organized by Doctors for Health and Environment and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust on 28 June 2016.

Speakers said, 'now non-communicable diseases are curse of civilization. In the name of civilization, wrong way of development includingenvironmental pollution, food contamination leads people towards destructions. We're unnecessarily imitating foreigners. This trend needs to be prevented. Environmental pollution, life style and food habit is responsible for spreading NCDs in Bangladesh. So changes have to bring in our life style and food habit.' They also said, govt. is concerns about the spread of NCDs. So that different steps has been taken to prevent NCDs. But due to lack of proper decision the spread of non-communicable diseases could not be possible to reduce by the government. Investment priority is given on purchasing and building infrastructure rather than prevention system in the Health budget. The government should give more emphasis on disease prevention system to ensure a healthy nation.
