Bangladeshi people having more than double salt than required that cause alarmingly increasing risks of high blood pressure in the human body. Every year about 9 million people died of high blood pressure around the world. Salt intake needs to be brought down by half for healthy living. Necessary steps need to take to avoid dietary salt intake and reduce use of salt in curry and other food.
Considering the issue, to provide guidance on the need to avoid extra salt intake for public health development and NCDs control with more than 150 organizations who are working on non-communicable disease control in the seven divisions, WHO and WBB Trust organized a seminar on "Sensitization on reduction of salt in food" on 22nd November 2015 at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB), Farmgate, Dhaka.
In the seminar, Dr. M Mostafa Zaman, National Professional Officer, WHO; Prof. Subhagata Choudhury, Director, Laboratory Service, BIRDEM; Prof. A.H.M. Enayet Hussain, Line Director, NCD Control- DGHS; Prof. Dr. Sohel Reza Chowdhury, National Heart Foundation; Mozaffar Hossain Poltu, Senior Vice-president, NATAB and Saifuddin Ahmed, Executive Director, WBB Trust was present. The VC of BUHS Prof. Liaquat Ali was keynote speaker.
