WBB Trust team appealed to form a Health Promotion Foundation for disease prevention as it is the core objective of our health policy. Speakers said the rate of non-communicable disease is increasing abnormally and tobacco uses is one of the important reasons for that. As collected 1% surcharge on tobacco products in order to discourage the uses of it, proper utilization of the fund is necessary. In that perspective a Health Promotion Foundation should be established for supporting long term disease prevention.
A team on behalf of Work for Better Bangladesh Trust has met with Md. Asadul Islam, Director General of Health Economics Department, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 16th August 2015. Syeda Anonna Rahman, National Advocacy Officer; Syed Saiful Alam, Media Advocacy Officer, Nyan Lin Kyaw, Volunteer from WBB Trust was present in the meeting.
Speakers said as NCDs treatment are long term, expensive and less chance of cure, importance has to give on preventive measures. Eliminating tobacco uses, increasing physical labor, changing the habit of unhealthy food can be the solution of controlling these diseases. Health Promotion Foundation will work to determine a course of action in light of health research for other government agencies to provide advice to protect the immune system, conduct advocacy, to take disease prevention programs and to provide financial and technical assistance. Our main goal is to prevent diseases and to ensure that Health Promotion Foundation has to be formed.
