Organizations who are working on tobacco control have appealed to district administration as well as govt. to create awareness about the illegal advertisement of tobacco products among the mass people and businessman. A view exchange meeting has been arranged jointly by Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust, Manobik and Jafrabad Multipurpose Cooperative Society at Jafrabad Multipurpose Cooperative Society yard on 23rd July 2015. Distinguished social worker Mr. Anisuzzaman Babul took the chair in the meeting which was conducted by A.N.M. Masum Billah Bhuiyan, Development officer, WBB Trust. Speeches given by Amir Hasan, President- Green Mind Society; ABM A Razzak, Executive Director-Madhobika; Shumon Shekh, Program Officer-Manobik; Shuvo Karmakar, Assistant Advocacy Officer etc at the meeting. Speakers said that tobacco control act has brought optimistic change. But illegal promotional activities of tobacco products are influencing the young generations to be addicted. According to the law any advertisement of tobacco product is prohibited but still the related companies are violating it by continuing their promotional activities. It’s a threat for all. They said we all can contribute in implementation of tobacco control act and help the authority. In the meeting it is also pointed out about harmful side of the tobacco harvesting. They said govt. has taken initiative to motivate the tobacco cultivators to adopt alternative profitable farming instead of tobacco.
