Non-communicable diseases like heart attack, high blood pressure, Diabetics, and cancer can not be checked only by mass awareness, infrastructure should be developed and policy should also be changed to reach the goal. Government has a cardinal role to play regarding it. Said experts in first divisional workshop on Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) in Rajshahi on july 19, 2012. The workshop was jointly organized by national level organization WBB Trust and divisional organizations BICD, BUKS, RANI and BCDP. It was held at training center of NGO Forum. The program was addressed by policy analyst Adv. Syed Mahbubul Alam, BICD executive Director Nazmul Huda Nayon, Executive Director of BCDP Md. Altab Hossain, and Chief Executive of RANI Md. Fazlul Haque Khan while Md. Hasinur Rahman, Executive Director of BUKS was in the chair. Sharmin Akter Rini, Development Officer of WBB Trust convened the program.
Speakers said trends of using soft drinks, energy drinks, junk foods and fast food among children and adolescent are increasing because of guardian’s lack of caution and enticing advertisements. As a result, they are attacked by Type-2 diabetics, High Blood Pressure, obesity and other health complexities. Advertisements of soft drinks, energy drinks, junk foods and fast food are to be banned and high tax should be imposed on these products to check NCDs.
