Climate change
Our
planet is under threat due to the extreme changes we have brought about from
pollution. The rapidly rising concentration of carbon dioxide in our
atmosphere is bringing hotter temperatures, more flooding, forest fires,
hurricanes, and droughts. Is it possible to adapt to a life without water?
Or can we act now to save our climate and our world?
WHO's Global Strategy on Diet, Physical
Activity and Health
Governments around the world have agreed on the importance of promoting
non-motorized transport, limiting consumption of fast food and soft drinks, and
reducing TV viewing. By learning more about the WHO's Global Strategy, we
can encourage our governments to honor their commitments to reducing chronic
disease--and improving people's lives--through creating infrastructure that will
encourage walking, cycling, and healthy eating, promoting health and people's
well-being over increased profits of big business.
Women, the Environment, and Economics:
Reflections on Marilyn Waring's If Women Counted
Can
changes in the way we measure wealth save our planet? Optimistic as that
may sound, Waring's book brings hope to our world. By changing our
national accounting systems to include the value of women's work and of nature
and the environment, we could learn to make wiser decisions about resource
allocations and investments, favoring the well-being of people and the
environment rather than commercial profit.
