Dhaka and
other cities in Bangladesh suffer from extremely high rates of noise pollution.
As a result, people's health and well-being are harmed. In many parts of
Dhaka, WHO limits on acceptable noise pollution are regularly exceeded,
including in front of schools and hospitals. "Quiet zones" are just as
noisy as other parts of the city, with the main offenders being horns and
engines of cars, motorcycles, and other motorized vehicles.
WBB is working to raise public awareness of the problem and the need to reduce
it, and is working with the government to create regulations that will reduce
honking and private car and motorcycle use, as well as other sources of noise pollution.
